THE GEAR
Power soccer runs on specialized equipment — and it takes a beating. Here's what every athlete needs.
Power Wheelchairs
Athletes use their daily power chairs, tuned for sport. Speed, acceleration, and responsiveness are adjusted for safe, competitive play.
Footguards
Custom metal guards bolted to the footplate let athletes pass, block, and shoot. Each guard is tailored to the player's chair and strength.
Bumpers
Front and rear bumpers protect the chair and other players during contact. They take a beating — replacements run $700+ each.
Controls
Standard joysticks, head arrays, chin controls, and sip-and-puff systems all work. Fine motor ability is not a barrier.
WHY IT MATTERS
A new sport chair runs $11,000. Footguards and bumpers cost $700 each and wear out from full-contact play. Batteries, tires, and motors need regular replacement. Sponsorship and donations keep athletes on the court.
